Those of you who aren ’ t parents likely spend very little time watching shows on Disney Jr. As I have a 2.5yo, I spend considerable time with these shows. Prior to this month, my daughters favorite show was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and she would lose her mind over Minnie Mouse. Drew Magary put together a perfect synopsis on this show:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

However, this month a new show debuted: Mickey and the Roadster Racers.

Kinja'd!!!

The show is broken into two stories. One is always a race between the characters at some location around the world. Think Wacky Races with Disney characters. The second part is a cartoon short usually featuring Minnie and Daisy.

This show, which quickly became my daughter ’ s favorite, has single handedly made my daughter love race cars. On Saturday morning we got up and I turned on Daytona while she ate her breakfast. When she noticed the screen she got super excited and yelled “ ROADSTER RACERS ” in toddler - ese. We then proceeded to talk about who was driving each car. For your information, Jeff Gordon ’ s car was piloted by Pete.

So head ’ s up to you other parents with young kids, this show is a great way to get them into cars and racing.

I stayed home from work on Friday with my 18 month old (small fever, runny nose, etc.) and we watched a couple episodes. It was fun stuff.

Anything better than Paw Patrol. Getting sick of that show.

My favorite band did the music for clubhouse, but apparently not this one.

We have friends staying with us for a few weeks who also have a 2 year old. Thanks to them, we have been introduced to Paw Patrol. That show ranks up there with GI Joe in its efforts to sell toys.

I always thought that was cool. I would love to know the story on how they ended being the ones performing the song. I presume personal connections to someone on the show.

I remember hearing them talking about writing the song in an interview.

Recently we were asked to create new opening and closing themes for the upcoming revival of The Mickey Mouse Club. As the work was being discussed on a four-way conference call, it emerged that the theme was going to have to spell out the name of the show - but “it can’t be the same melody!” It was an interesting challenge, but I wondered aloud if we were being asked to invent New Coke. Now, I don’t even know if I like it but, for better of worse, the original is an icon. How could another spelled-out theme replace, or even compare to the original? Then I was reminded the audience is almost entirely of three- and four-year-olds. For them nothing is a rerun or a remake - it’s all brand new.

I’m not sure how they got the opportunity but they were saying awhile ago that their earliest fans are getting into positions of seniority and that was providing them with opportunities.

Good to know. I’m still trying to figure out at what age it would be appropriate to show my almost 8 year old The Fast and The Furious. As for turning him into a gear head, between we did an oil change on my wife’s car together and since then he’s been more curious about cars and talks a bit less about dinosaurs. Progress lol.

Good job. My daughter is still too young to get her involved in the garage at all, but I hope that when she gets a little older she still has some interest.

Jonah likes to get lists done. Like not matter what it is, if you give him a list of objectives he wants toe check them off. So I explain to him what we were going today and how to do it, and then at each step I’d ask him “oaky, so that’s done so what’s next?” The best part was after we got the car on jackstand and he crawled under the car, and said “wow the underneath of the car looks cool. I’ve never seen this part of a car before.”

Jonah is actually my nephew, and he started living wiht us in October, he didn’t really have much parental guidance before, and it’s been great teaching him new things.

Look for a show called Roary the Racing Car. It’s Bob The Builder but with cars.

Don’t remember, it’s been forever since anyone in my family was young enough to watch it. I bet you can find it on YouTube.
